Adrian Monk to były policjant, który cierpi na nerwicę natręctw, od czasu brutalnego morderstwa żony. Choroba ta polega na tym, że cierpiący na nią może obsesyjnie obawiać się czegoś, co dla innych jest rzeczą normalną.
